The more things change, the more they stay…
shiny.
Betty LaBamba here, bearing gifts in the guise of fashion mag tear sheets from various points throughout the 90’s. Unfortunately, there are no exact dates on any of them, or any clue from which magazine they came from on most of them.
First row from left: a lucky dog; an unspecified long sleeved latex dress; lime green latex from Anna Sui.
Second row from left: a positive article on the influence of rubber fetishism from British[?] Vogue featuring Ectomorph; an article suffering from too much snarky fashionspeak from Sky Magazine about vanillas trying to “get into” rubber; a genius ad for Persil dish detergent. Enjoy!
Special thanks goes out to Garlor for mailing me these goodies and other latex ephemera all the way from across the Atlantic, and mucho thanks to 3xL for inviting me to contribute to this site.
Can’t wait to see more goodness from the famous Betty LaBamba archives :-)
And a big welcome to the blog.
The Sky article is really a bit overly snarky *grumble
Yay, Betty!
Wonderful to see the result of sharing these with you Betty, they used to be hidden in a folder in my closet(like I used to Be !! ) Gary aka Lorraine hence Garlor
“Condom-frock” “rubber farts” LMAO
Welcome!!!
You are most welcome! Happy to have you on board!
I’m glad to see you posting here Betty :)
I think that the common idea recycling we see in fashion means that latex and shiny stuff will come back in a cyclical way. I guess the worse thing that would happen is if it became TOO much of a fad, and becomes associated with a specific era – like legwarmers and the early 80s.
