On a seriously tragic note, I picked up this piece of sad news off of the Fetiche School forum (thanks Observer):
While walking through Stubby Lee Park in Bacup, Lancashire UK, Sophie Lancaster and her boyfriend, Robert Maltby were brutally attacked by a mob of thugs. While Maltby is recovering from the vicious beating, Lancaster slipped into a coma and died on August 24th. Police suggested that the victims of the attack were chosen because of their Gothic style of dress. Five members of the attack have been arrested and their trial will begin on October 18th, as police continue to investigate in order to find the remaining attackers and witnesses.
It’s absolutely horrifying that such senseless brutality can be committed upon anyone, but to think that the victims were singled out for their dress is truly chilling. If you’d like to pay respects, and learn about the memorial fund the family is setting up her name, there is a page on Myspace for people to visit and send condolences.
Take nothing for granted folks. Life is precious and often all too short… Rest in peace Sophie.
