Charlotte Gibson is a contemporary English painter with a BA in fine arts who also happens to be a latex fiend, and enjoys painting some of her favorite outfits.
Latex for me, is the best material to work with. I love the highly reflective surface and vivid colours combined with some transparancy when pulled tightly over curves. Realistically recreating these textures and colours is my challenge and I feel that acrylics help to heighten the shine and sexiness within the paintings.
Most paintings begin as photographs of the artist modeling her clothing. What I find refreshing about Charlotte’s work are the unique angles and composition in each latex painting. I also appreciate the more creative and colorful latex that she chooses to highlight, and the painterly aspect of each piece–these are fetish paintings which can really stand on their own merit, outside of the narrow fetish scope!
Visit her homepage to see other works and to keep abreast of upcoming openings at events and galleries in the UK.
Well okay, I doubt we’ll be seeing printed lace latex stockings and frilly underwear anytime soon at the local Victoria’s Secret, but latex does make an appearance at a recent fashion show, shown in several outfits.
Of course, we’ll all be wondering now who actually made the latex that was on the runway. My first guess is Atsuko Kudo, but could it actually be Syren Couture, given their close relationship with major American studios and starlets? Anyone know for sure?
[With a tip of the hat to Ms Von Livid’s official House of Bias blog, For the Tongue in Chic for “scooping” this one.]

On the 1. of January 2009, the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare will remove a range of ‘sexual behaviours’ from the official disease registry. 30 years ago the board removed homosexuality from list, which is primarily used to gather statistics on healthcare but is also viewed as an official list of diseases.
Some felt that the inclusion of transvestism, sadomasochism, fetishism, fetishistic transvestism, sexual preference disorders and gender identity disorder in young people led to social stigma.
“We don’t want to contribute to certain sexual behaviors being thought of as diseases,” Lars-Erik Holm, head of the national board, told Dagens Nyheter newspaper. “These individuals’ sexual preferences have nothing to do with society.”
It was about time Sweden came out of the Dark Ages. The Swedish fetish people and other sexual minorities has fought for this in a long time and it’s because of them it’s finally happening.
Are your still considered sick in your country? There are still many countries where fetishism is still seen as a disease, where consent sadomasochistic play is seen as a criminal act and even some where homosexuality comes with a death penalty. Leave a comment!
