3xL here, sorry for the lack of updates, I have been really busy working on my new book. Here is a report from this years Club Rub RubAwards in London, that my friend Kim sent to me. Enjoy!
I first heard about the Club Rub RubAwards last year, when I was in London for Halloween. Several people told me that this was the place to be if I wanted to see some great latex creations. So this year I started planing early and me and two friend from Copenhagen made it to the Club Rub RubAwards!
The party was getting close and we where getting more and more exited. We brought our finest latex outfits, but would we have a change to win some prizes?
After a day of window shopping at some of the fines fetish stores in London, we where getting ready for going to the party. Everything was going better than we expected and we arrived 5 minutes early and found the door closed. The ticket said 10 pm, but the doors did not open before 10:30 pm. In regular clothing London in October is not that bad, but when you are wearing latex it’s quite cold. We where happy that we was first in line, so we was the first to come inside.
Once inside, we noticed that there was still some last minute preparations going on for the shows there was going to run from 11.15 pm to around midnight. The venue “the Light Box” was a nice club. I have been to much bigger venues in London, but this was just fine, not too big, but not to small either.
We where naturally very interested in seeing what latex outfits the other guest was wearing. At first the outfits did not seem much out of the ordinary. But as we got closer to the time where the judges was supposed to make their rounds, the really great latex outfits started to appearing. After midnight the whole place was filled with wonderful latex creations!
Suddenly, I found myself talking to Countess De Jager, Club Rubs resident Mistress. She had the honour of judging for “Libidex“, who were sponsoring “Most Creative Latex”. The awards are divided into categories (this year 12 in all) each sponsored by a company there get to pick their winner. This can be done by themselves, or by someone representing them.
Shortly before 1 am, the Countess came over to me and my friends again and announced that the “US Marine Dress Blue” uniform, that I was wearing, had been selected to win “Most Creative Latex”! The Countess then asked me and my friend Smila (who designed and created the uniform) to come on stage and receive the award. After that such an experience, it took me some time to fall down again.
After watching the whole award show, I can proudly say that there are some very skilled and creative people out there!
The outfit that I personally was most impressed with was the winner of the “Best Dress” award. The dress, there was worn by a girl named Svetlana, was quite simple, but it was covered with a most detailed Manga application. It was not printed, but cut out in many colours and glued together. Very impressive!
The party was great, even before we won a prize. The only minuses where the closed door on arrival and that the party started to die out around 3 am. I was ready for a lot more, but there were just to few people in the end. Still we enjoyed that the party was less hectic as some of the huge Torture Garden and Rubber Ball events.
Club Rub hold monthly parties with different themes and I’m sure that both me and my friends will be back for more.
The Festival of Sins at the Den and Centro in central London last weekend saw the triumphant debut of Rubber 55 on the club-world catwalk. Featuring a mix of bondage dresses, catsuits and hoods (pictured left) at least three of the models were head-to-toe in latex.
“The Festival of Sins fashion show was a great success for us, said Karen and Andy of Rubber 55, afterwards. “We used the event to showcase some classic Rubber 55 garments as well as some new designs, yet to be added to our catalogue. The models looked fantastic and we received a great reception.”
I asked the award-winning couple where they got their ideas from and they told me: “Inspiration can come from many sources, but it is mainly our own passion, interests etc that drive us to create great quality garments that have a blend of fashion & bondage at a price to suit most pockets.”
The event itself, Festival of Sins, has developed a strong reputation in the London fetish scene for its exuberant cocktail of dress-up glamour and lively goings on, not to mention its original optional ‘suggested dress code’, with the caveat that yes, you do get gawping straight-dressed tourists. Voted Time Out’s Critics’ Choice in Mainstream, Gay and Alternative Clubbing the event is a riotous throng of perversion and show-play on three levels. The theme of the night was ‘Wrath’ and at any one time there was always a fury of DJs, fashion shows, ‘Sin Booths’, cabaret skits or art installations to entertain – I especially liked the completely mental actor employed to interpret your peeves described on ‘request’ cards, she was a total star.
The next Festival of Sins will be on Saturday 11th December and will be entitled ‘Sloth’. My thanks for the fabulous pictures go to Sarah Kir. Check out her website for pics from the night. You can also check out performance artist Synth‘s site by clicking on her image (right).
Florence states “Its about having fun with the design and ideas without being restricted by budget or whether its commercial or not. It was more about visual impact and exploring new techniques and ideas in rubber, and using some other interesting mixes, like the use of fur or glitter.” The stipulation from the editor of Bizarre was that each outfit had a theme, and revealed as much skin as possible!
Only a limited quantity of each outfit will be sold, then the design will be removed from the site. House of Harlot wanted to make these custom outfits available to the public, but maintain their cachet by limiting the production of these elaborate ensembles, which include all accessories.
The current selection includes:
– Clown Gold with the Pierrot hat and dot and stripe applique.
– Gothic Geisha, a confection of latex pleated frills and roses.
– Sailor Moon, a very kinky riff on the anime classic.
– Ringmistress with fancy frog closures, epaulettes, and a top hat.
– Day of the Dead Zombie with elaborate detailing and glitter.
Robin and Florence were kind enough to answer my questions about this line and mentioned that there will be more limited edition Gold outfits in the future.
RubberPages.com is a new fetish “compare & shop” website for rubber clothing, bdsm toys and accessories from retailers worldwide.
Designers and retailers pay to have their products listed, instead of RubberPages.com acting as a reseller, much like Shop.com in the vanilla world.
Users can then browse categories and do advanced searches for their ideal item. Every product listing has a full description, colour samples and customizable details to help users make decisions. Prices are also available in seven different currencies and updated daily.
Another interesting feature to help users save time and hopefully money is the custom design request. After joining the site for free, you can post a request for any type of product and all of the listed retailers can choose to bid on it.
Matt, the CRO (Chief Rubber Officer) of RubberPages.com, explains “I started this site because there can be a lot of factors to consider when buying rubber and every day it seemed like a new retailer emerged with a unique set of products. I am confident that there are a ton of people out there with the same frustration and hopefully this site will help them. In fact, I will make my next purchase using RubberPages.com”.
I don’t think Matt, will be the only one.
