Gary Lee, a 28 years old graphic/multimedia designer from Johannesburg in South Africa, draws some very surreal fetish artworks!
Obsessed with fetish footwear, Gary art features high heeled dominant females at play in surreal landscapes with bio/mechanical beings. His backgrounds gets their influence from surreal masters such as H.R. Giger, Salvador Dali and Giorgio de Chirico. Other influences are manga, horror films and just about anything to do with the warping and converging of the human anatomy with other less than desirable forms.
Gary thinks that the backgrounds are just props for the real focal point – the boots. He also believes that the drawings are a kind of psychological release.
Gary explains; “When I begin a drawing I often don’t know what I’m going to create until it is completely sketched in pencil. The whole process is very surreal and I think this is where the psychological aspect to the work comes in. I may see an interesting pose in a magazine or on the web or I may see something in a movie that may get the ball rolling. However these fragments of inspiration hardly ever make it to paper because I often end up going on a completely different tangent.”
